The Beginning

I’ve always wanted to be a writer.
There are some people I know who may be quite surprised by that statement.

I can remember sitting on a rock outside of a grocery store with an old friend of mine, talking about writing books and what kind they would be. I tried writing my first story around the time I was 13, but alas, I do not have the attention span for writing fiction. I love reading it though! Then there was the blog sensation. My cousin had one, my sister had one, so I had one. But I could never figure out what to write, so I ended up deleting the blog after about three posts. Writing in some form or another has always been in the background of my thoughts, but I could never figure out what I wanted to write about. I could never figure out what people would want to read. But then I read an F. Scott Fitzgerald quote: “You don't write because you want to say something, you write because you have something to say.” The point of writing isn’t to say something that people want to hear, although that is a plus, the point is that I have something to say. So this will be a place for my words, my thoughts. I’m finally giving them a home.

Blackbird in a Heather Field...
Another statement of sorts that may not make sense.

There are a couple of reasons behind the name.
1. It’s the second name I picked that hadn’t already been taken. It’s amazing what people will name their blogs these days!
And 2. Blackbirds and Heather actually have a lot of symbolism behind them. Blackbirds can symbolize Mystery, Magic, Secrets, The Unknown, Pure Potential, Non-obvious Perception, Death, and A Message of Blessings. These are all things that I consider to be good where writing is concerned. Well all except for death, but where there is life there must eventually be death. So I’ll go with it. Heather symbolizes Dreams, Romance, and Feelings. I think these are absolutely fitting for this world of words. So why not have a whole field of Heather? And within that Heather Field full of dreams, romance, and feeling, why not add some Mystery, and etc. through to, A Message of Blessing with a Blackbird? Or if you’re the type of person who doesn’t care for the meaning behind the words; isn’t the picture of a Blackbird in a Heather Field that comes to mind pretty?

So there you have it, my prologue of sorts.
I hope you enjoy reading these words as much as I enjoy writing them.
